Overview
XM is a forex and CFD broker that's been running since 2009 and says it serves clients in more than 190 countries. It suits traders who want to start small on MetaTrader. Its EU business, Trading Point of Financial Instruments Ltd, is regulated by CySEC, and there's an Australian licence with ASIC, but most international clients are signed up through XM Global Limited, licensed by the FSC of Belize, or the Seychelles and Mauritius entities. That's where the 1:1000 leverage lives. EU and Australian clients are capped at 1:30.
Accounts and costs
The Micro, Standard and Ultra Low accounts all start from a $5 deposit and charge no commission. Micro and Standard spreads start around 1 pip, and Ultra Low brings that down to roughly 0.6 pips. Some regions also get a Zero account with raw spreads plus $7 per lot round turn. If you want to own real stocks, the Shares account needs $10,000 and charges a per-share commission with no leverage. Every account comes with negative balance protection and an Islamic swap-free option. There's an inactivity fee once an account sits idle for a year.
Platforms and markets
You trade on MT4, MT5 or the XM app. There's no cTrader. The range covers over 1,400 instruments: forex pairs, indices, commodities, metals, energies, stock CFDs and crypto CFDs, plus Turbo Stocks and thematic indices at some entities. A free demo is available.
Money in and out
You can fund by card, bank transfer and local payment methods depending on your country. XM doesn't charge its own deposit or withdrawal fees on most methods, though small bank wires can cost you. Withdrawals go back to the card or method you deposited with first, and profits beyond that go out by bank transfer.

What traders say
Scores from the sites traders use, and our summary of what they're saying, checked 6 October 2026.
XM draws a split crowd. It holds about 3.8 on Trustpilot from roughly 2,400 reviews, 4.3 on Myfxbook from about 360 reviews and 4.2 on Sitejabber from about 310. A third-party breakdown of the Trustpilot page counted around 46% five-star and 31% one-star, so the average hides two very different groups. Forex Peace Army has a busy page and forum, mostly made up of disputes.
What traders like
Execution and spreads. Myfxbook and Sitejabber reviewers often mention fast fills, stops filled at the set price during volatile moves and spreads they consider fair, especially on gold.
Local payment methods. Traders in India and elsewhere say local bank deposits and withdrawals work smoothly, and several Reddit users say small test withdrawals came through.
Low entry point. A small minimum deposit and the MT4/MT5 setup make it a common first broker, according to Reddit threads.
Common complaints
Withdrawals held or reversed. The largest group of low reviews on Trustpilot, Forex Peace Army and Reddit describe withdrawals pending for weeks, reversed back to the account, or held while XM asked for more documents. Some say small amounts go through but larger ones stall.
Profits removed or accounts closed. Several Forex Peace Army threads claim XM cancelled profits or closed accounts citing bonus abuse or breach of terms after a profitable run.
Local payment agents. Some reviewers in South Asia say deposits through local agents went missing or that funds were frozen by their bank afterwards.
Margin changes around news. A few reviewers say leverage was cut or the platform froze at busy times.
XM replies to most Trustpilot complaints asking for account details.
