Overview

SoFi Invest is the investing side of SoFi, the San Francisco fintech that also does banking, loans and credit cards. It's aimed at newer US investors who'd rather keep everything in one app than chase the deepest toolset. It's only open to residents of the 50 US states and Puerto Rico. Brokerage accounts sit with SoFi Securities LLC, a FINRA and SIPC member, the robo service is run by SoFi Wealth LLC, an SEC-registered adviser, and crypto goes through SoFi Bank, N.A.

Accounts and costs

Active Investing is the self-directed account. Stocks, ETFs and options cost $0 in commission, and there's no per-contract fee on options, which is rare. There's no account minimum, and fractional shares of 4,000+ stocks and ETFs start at $5. Automated Investing builds an ETF portfolio for you once you've put in $50. You can hold either inside a Roth, Traditional or SEP IRA with no opening or annual fee. Watch the smaller charges: a $25 inactivity fee after six months, $100 to transfer out or close an IRA, a 0.2% fee on mutual fund purchases and roughly a 1% spread on crypto. Margin is available but not cheap.

Platforms and markets

Everything runs in SoFi's own web and mobile app. It's clean and easy to learn, with real-time news, but research and charting are basic and you can't connect TradingView. The range is US stocks, ETFs, options, mutual funds and IPO access, plus crypto through SoFi Bank. There's no forex, futures or overseas stock trading.

Money in and out

You fund the account by bank transfer, usually ACH, and money lands in one to two business days. Revolut and Wise also work. Withdrawals by ACH are free and take about two days, while a wire out costs $25.

What traders say

Scores from the sites traders use, and our summary of what they're saying, checked 6 October 2026.

SoFi as a company reviews well, but very little of that feedback is about SoFi Invest itself. Trustpilot shows 4 stars from about 12,600 reviews, and most of those are about personal loans and banking. Sitejabber's small page sits at 1.7 from 20 reviews. The most useful evidence on the brokerage comes from the r/sofi subreddit, where investors are mixed: happy with a simple app tied to their bank account, frustrated by withdrawal holds and a thin feature set.

What traders like

  • Simple and cheap. Reddit users describe the Invest app as clean and easy for buy-and-hold investing, with no commissions and fractional shares.

  • One app for banking and investing. Several say instant transfers between SoFi checking and Invest make it convenient if you already bank there.

  • Deposit match. Some long-term users mention the 1% match on IRA and recurring deposits as a reason to move money over.

Common complaints

  • Withdrawal holds. The most repeated complaint on Reddit is money taking days or weeks to leave Invest, with holds of up to 30 days when funds go to a different bank from the one they came from. Some say support did not explain the hold until they escalated.

  • Restricted accounts. A few reviewers on ConsumerAffairs, Trustpilot and Reddit say their accounts were restricted after a deposit or an incoming transfer, and support asked them to sell up or wait for a security review.

  • Not for active traders. Reddit users say charting is limited, options are long-only, and unsettled cash makes frequent trading awkward.

  • New fees. Some object to fees added after they opened accounts, such as charges to transfer out an IRA.

Recently

  • July 2026: an r/sofi thread on satisfaction found users generally positive, saying Invest keeps improving but still trails larger brokers.

  • August 2026: a Trustpilot reviewer describes a restricted account and repeated multi-hour support calls after fraudulent charges, and a BBB complaint describes a fraud claim denied in September.
