Overview

Robinhood is the US app broker that made commission-free trading the norm. It's a good fit for US investors and active traders who want stocks, options and crypto in one clean app and don't need mutual funds or bonds. The brokerage side runs through Robinhood Financial and Robinhood Securities, both registered broker-dealers and FINRA members, while crypto sits with Robinhood Crypto under state money transmitter licences.

Accounts and costs

There's no minimum to open an account or start investing. US stocks, ETFs and equity options cost $0 in commission, though regulatory fees still apply on sells. Index options are $0.50 per contract and futures $0.75. Crypto has no commission, but a fee of up to 0.95% is built into the spread. You can open a cash or margin account and an IRA. Robinhood Gold costs $5 a month or $50 a year and gets you cheaper index options and futures, better cash rates and a 3% IRA match. Like other zero-commission brokers, Robinhood earns from payment for order flow.

Platforms and markets

Everything happens in Robinhood's own mobile app and web platform. You won't find MetaTrader, and you can't connect a Robinhood account to TradingView. Markets cover US stocks and ETFs, with fractional shares and dividend reinvestment, options up to multi-leg spreads for eligible accounts, futures, prediction market contracts and a long list of crypto. Robinhood has also started offering crypto perpetual futures with up to 10x leverage to eligible customers.

Money in and out

Standard bank transfers in and out are free. Instant withdrawals to a bank or debit card cost up to 1.75%, with a $1 minimum and $150 cap, and outgoing wires cost $25. Moving your whole portfolio to another broker carries an outbound transfer fee, so check that before you commit.

What traders say

Scores from the sites traders use, and our summary of what they're saying, checked 6 October 2026.

Opinion on Robinhood depends on where you look. Its main Trustpilot page has about 13,700 reviews, but the bundle does not show the score. The UK page is rated 3.5 from about 50 reviews. Sitejabber averages 1.1 from about 270. A review site reports about 4.3 in the app stores, though those ratings are outside this evidence. Reddit is split between people who like the app and people who prefer a more established broker. Praise is mostly for the app. Complaints are mostly about support and getting money out.

What traders like

  • The app. Many reviewers on Trustpilot, Reddit and the app stores call it the cleanest and most intuitive trading interface they have used.

  • Low costs. Commission-free stocks, ETFs and options, cheap index options and free crypto trading come up often.

  • Gold and extras. Some like the interest on cash for Gold members, the promotions and, in the UK, the ISA and cheap options.

Common complaints

  • No human support. Many low reviews describe chat bots, repeated waits of several days and cases closed without a fix.

  • Money stuck on the way out. Several reviewers on Sitejabber, Trustpilot, BBB and Reddit describe withdrawals or account transfers held up by restrictions, settlement holds or compliance checks. Some describe account closures with funds frozen for weeks.

  • Business model worries. Reddit users often raise payment for order flow, the 2021 GameStop trading halt and an app they feel makes risky trading too easy.

  • Fraud handling. A few BBB complaints describe accounts opened or used fraudulently and slow help to sort them out.

Recently

  • July 2026: UK Trustpilot reviewers describe an ISA transfer stuck in a compliance check with no warning given. Others praise the low-cost options and the ISA.

  • September to October 2026: new Trustpilot reviews keep the same split, with high marks for the interface and low marks for support and crypto transfer problems.
