Overview

DEGIRO is a low-cost stockbroker for European investors, started in Amsterdam in 2008 and now part of flatexDEGIRO, a German bank listed in Frankfurt. It suits buy-and-hold investors who want cheap access to shares and ETFs on markets around the world, and it serves over 3 million clients in more than a dozen European countries. The bank is supervised by BaFin in Germany, the Dutch branch that trades as DEGIRO is overseen by the AFM and DNB, and DEGIRO B.V. appears on the UK's FCA register.

Accounts and costs

There's no minimum deposit, and no account, custody, inactivity, deposit or withdrawal fees (mutual funds carry a monthly service fee). Commissions are low: about €2 to buy US shares, and ETFs on the Core Selection list only carry a €1 handling fee. Trades in another currency go through Auto FX, which adds 0.25% each way. Margin and securities lending are available, but there's no forex trading and no demo account.

Platforms and markets

You trade on DEGIRO's own web platform and app, with real-time quotes, interactive charts, Analyst Views from LSEG and two-factor login. There's no MetaTrader or TradingView. The range is big: more than 50 exchanges across 30 countries, thousands of ETFs, plus bonds, funds, options, futures, leveraged products and crypto through exchange-traded notes.

Money in and out

Funding is by bank transfer from an account in your name, and Wise, Revolut and PayPal deposits aren't accepted. Some countries, such as Germany and Spain, can use e-wallets. DEGIRO doesn't charge for deposits or withdrawals, withdrawals go back to your bank by transfer only, and they usually arrive in about a day.

What traders say

Scores from the sites traders use, and our summary of what they're saying, checked 6 October 2026.

DEGIRO's review footprint is thinner than its size suggests. Its UK Trustpilot page has about 770 reviews, but our evidence does not show the score. G2 has 12 user reviews, also without a visible score, and a tiny Reviews.io page for degiro.fr sits at 1.0 from 9 reviews, most of them fund-recovery spam rather than customer reviews. The fullest picture comes from Reddit, where European ETF investors discuss the broker at length: generally content with the cost and simplicity, less happy about fee rises and a dated platform.

What traders like

  • Low cost for buy-and-hold. The main reason people choose DEGIRO, especially for regular ETF purchases.

  • Simple, clean platform. Several Reddit and G2 users find the web and mobile apps easy to use, and Trustpilot replies point to praise for order execution.

  • A real broker. Some value that it is a regulated European broker owned by a listed German bank, rather than an app-first newcomer.

  • Responsive support. A few say it is easier to reach a person than at some rivals.

Common complaints

  • Fees creeping up. Several long-time users on r/DEGIRO say commissions on some exchanges have risen enough that it is no longer the cheap option, and some have moved to Interactive Brokers or Trade Republic.

  • A dated platform. Some say the app has barely changed in years and lacks portfolio analysis tools.

  • Slow withdrawals and transfers, for a minority. A few Reddit posters describe withdrawals that took weeks or, in one case, months, and portfolio transfers out that dragged well past the stated six weeks. Others reply that theirs arrive in a day or two.

  • Transfer-out fees. Reviewers and Curvo point to a per-line charge for moving holdings to another broker.

  • Product limits. Some say ETFs are blocked when the key information document is not in their own language, and US options are unavailable.
